The Family Cafe believes that better informed families make better decisions for themselves and their loved ones, leading to better outcomes. We also believe that it is important for individuals with disabilities and their families participate in the public conversation about the decisions and policies made by their government that can have a profound effect on the services they receive, and their daily lives.
In order to give Florida families a chance to learn about what's going on at the state level regarding pending legislation and possible policy changes, The Family Cafe has begun a series of weekly legislative conference calls entitled "Let's Talk!" These conference calls, which will be held throughout the 2012 Regular Legislative Session, each Friday at 4:00 EST, give participants a chance to hear about the week's legislative developments, and each one features a different guest speaker.
To view notes of previous calls, follow the link to the relevant date. January 13, call 1. January 20, call 2. January 27, call 3.
The next "Let's Talk!" legislative conference call will be held Friday, February 3 at 4:00 EST. To join the call, dial 888-808-6959 and use the pass code 2244670#. Please join us!

The Family Cafe is pleased to announce the publication of The 2011 Family Cafe Questions & Answers Book. This publication is a direct result of engagement by attendees at The 13th Annual Family Cafe last June. Through The Family Cafe's "Pink Card" process, attendees were given the opportunity to submit questions and comments. The Family Cafe distributed them to the relevant state agencies and offices, and the end product is The 2011 Family Cafe Questions & Answers Book. It includes information from the Governor's Office, the Agency for Healthcare Administration, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, the Department of Children and Families, Department of Education, Department of Health, Division of Emergency Management, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and, of course, from The Family Cafe too.
We really hope you find this new publication to be useful for you and your family. Please take a few minutes to check it out all of the great stuff it has to offer. And thanks to all of the attendees of The 13th Annual Family Cafe for their many questions and comments. Your voices truly matter!
