This Year's Annual Family Cafe

2018 cover The Family Cafe invites you to attend Florida's premier event for people with disabilities, The Annual Family Cafe!

Since 1998, The Annual Family Cafe has brought together thousands of individuals with disabilities and their family members for three days of information, training and networking each June. With a great range of individual breakout sessions, a packed Exhibit Hall with dozens of vendors, and a series of special events including Keynote speakers and The Governors’ Summit on Disabilities, The Annual Family Café offers families exposure to a wide range of public and private resources, opportunities to find support by networking with other families, and unprecedented access to policy-making officials.

The 20th Anniversary Family Cafe will be held on June 15-17, 2018 in Orlando. We hope to see you there!

On-site registration will be available at the Registration Desk begninning at 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 14th.

The Family Cafe's smartphone app is a great way to stay on top of everything that will be happening over the course of the three day event. The app includes all of the information that can be found in the printed program, and more! Get it at https://www.gatherdigital.com/apps/2440/app_info.

The Family Cafe remains committed to connecting attendees with information and resources at minimal cost, so there is no registration fee for individuals with disabilities and their family members.

The Family Cafe also offers limited financial assistance to provide for the cost of hotel accommodations on-site at The Annual Family Cafe. Attendees can request assistance as part of the registration process. 

At this time, all financial assistance has been distributed by lottery.

The 20th Anniversary Family Cafe will be held at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. Rooms are available at the Hyatt at the special event rate of $119/night. At this time,The Family Cafe room block at the Hyatt is full. While it may be possible to reserve a room at the Hyatt, it may be difficult to do so.  You can contact the Hyatt Regency directly at 407-284-1234.

Additional rooms are available at the overflow hotel, the Rosen Centre, which is located directly across the street from the Hyatt Regency. The Rosen Centre will honor the $119/night special event rate upon request. The Rosen Centre can be reached at 800-204-7234. Please be advised that you must make your reservation by May 23rd to get the special event rate.

This time we put the focus the upcoming 2019 legislative session, and things you can do to make sure your voice is heard when our State Senators and Representatives return to Tallahassee. Remember, 2018 is an election year, and this is a a perfect time to get to know the people that have their sites set on coming up to Tallahassee to shape our state's policies and service delivery system for people with disabilities.

If you're joining us in Orlando for The 20th Anniversary Family Cafe, we will have plenty of copies of this CAN newsletter to take home with you! Our event also provides you with a great chance to hear directly from the Governor and the heads of state agencies that serve people with disabilities. We hope to see you there!

The FYC Invites Youth to The 11th Annual Youth Summit

The 11th Annual Youth Summit

As summer comes to an end, join The Florida Youth Council for one big last hurrah at The 11th Annual Youth Summit (AYS) on August 3 - 4 in Orlando!

The Annual Youth Summit is a place for young people with disabilities between the ages of 15 and 30 from communities across the state of Florida to come together to learn, share, and network. This two-day event is hosted by The Florida Youth Council, a group of youth and emerging leaders with disabilities who have a passion for encouraging leadership and advocacy among their peers. The FYC is all about youth empowerment and youth involvement, and the entire Annual Youth Summit is planned by youth, for youth!

The 11th Annual Youth Summit will bring together over 200 youth and emerging leaders to attend engaging youth-only sessions on a wide variety of topics, including transition, workplace preparedness, and post-secondary schooling. We also have a great, youth-friendly keynote and fun social activities planned for the Summit, including a dance party to cap off the festivities. There will be plenty of opportunities for attendees to network, and share their thoughts, experiences, and aspirations.

The 11th Annual Youth Summit will be held at The Florida Hotel and Conference Center in Orlando on August 3-4, 2018. If you are not requesting financial assistance please contact The Florida Hotel and Conference Center directly at 407-859-1500 to make reservations. The room rate is $109 per night. Limited financial assistance is available.
